Playing guitar from the age of 8, Santana was born in Jalisco Mexico but his family moved to Tijiuana and then San Francisco. He graduated from James Lick Middle School, and in 1965 from Mission High School. He was a big part of SF's contribution to the 60s and pioneered an Afro-Latin-Blues-Rock fusion style. Our sources say Carlos Santa used to play gigs in Precita Park until the police showed up, back when it was deep Barrio territory.
